La Casa de Papel is one of the most important Spanish series in history. Created by Atresmedia but later acquired by Netflix to turn it into a very important fiction at international level, the series has become such a milestone that even a version of it has been made in South Korea. And if there is a name behind the secret of its success, it is Berlin.

The character played by Pedro Alonso began the series as a small antagonist within the group of robbers, but the revelations that came out later – such as that he is the Professor’s brother – and his relentless charisma and sacrifice made him become the most beloved character of all.

So much so that, as soon as La Casa de Papel officially ended, from Netflix it was clear what their next step had to be: to make a spin-off of Berlin’s past. It’s something they already gave hints of in the last seasons, but now it has become a reality in the trailer of the series that they have presented at the TUDUM event. Inside video:

A series with a DNA different from that of La Casa de Papel

It has a very different DNA. We came from very complicated series with a lot of anguish and violence. When we started the process we were looking for more light and to have fun. That is very present in the series and it is vital and playful”. This is how Álex Pina, creator of La Casa de Papel, explained what Berlin, the spin-off of the series, will be like.

Far from the drama that was the last season of the series, in the trailer of this new one we have already seen a more innocent and fun spirit, more in tune with Ocean’s Eleven style heist movies. We’ll see if they deliver what they promised, which is not little, although with Berlin in front of everyone it will be difficult for anything to go wrong. The series will premiere on December 29, 2023.
