During the recent announcement of Oblivion Remastered, Dan Lee, art lead at Bethesda Game Studios, revealed that the approach to level improvement has changed, which will generate satisfaction among fans. The community has long criticized the leveling system of the original game, which allowed players to experience inefficient progress due to the dynamic scaling system and the need to increase minor skills to gain an adequate amount of points when leveling up.
A much simpler and straightforward game
In the remastered version, the system is significantly simplified. Players receive 12 points, called “virtues,” to assign to attributes each time they level up, regardless of progress in specific skills. This modification represents a positive change, as it avoids the frustration of the previous version, where the focus on skills appropriate for the class could be counterproductive. Now, attribute increases such as Agility and Stamina benefit from a more intuitive and effective approach.
Lee mentioned that the new leveling system is inspired by both Oblivion and Skyrim, aiming to combine the best of both worlds. However, clarity about these changes has increased after the first hours of gameplay. Aside from improvements in graphics and interface, changes have been made to the sound of certain races like Argonians and Khajiit, although some nostalgic elements, such as the complicated lockpicking and persuasion minigames, remain unchanged.
The remastering promises not only to update the game visually but also to correct critical gaps in its original gameplay, presenting a more friendly and accessible proposal for both new generations and veteran players alike.
