Starfield, the acclaimed space RPG from Bethesda, has taken a significant step by introducing mod support, which has enhanced the gaming experience according to some users. Among the available modifications, a gore mod stands out, adding violent elements to the game, addressing one of the criticisms regarding the lack of a more explicit violence system compared to previous titles like Fallout 4 and Skyrim.
Since its announcement, Bethesda had emphasized that Starfield would adopt a more realistic and less violent approach, aligning with the tone of inspiring works like ‘The Expanse’ and ‘Star Trek’. However, this decision has caused some disappointment among fans, who found the game less dynamic and exciting due to the lack of variety in combat and weapons.
Starfield’s senior artist, Dennis Mejillones, revealed in an interview that the game originally considered a more robust gore system. However, it had to be removed due to technical difficulties related to the complexity of the space suits and their interaction with the environment. “From a technical perspective, there were many implications with the different suits,” Mejillones commented, referring to the challenges of implementing a system that took into account the variability of the space suits and their interactions.
What technology cannot do, the community can
Despite these setbacks, some players have found that the inclusion of mods, especially the gore mod, enhances the Starfield experience, making it more exciting. However, it is important to note that the lack of a more cinematic combat system and a greater variety of encounters can make the game feel less vibrant compared to its predecessors.
Over time, many in the gaming community hope that more mods will be released to enrich the world of Starfield and offer a more varied and exciting experience.
