Recently, rumors have emerged about the possible development of a remake of Bloodborne, the masterpiece by FromSoftware. According to reports, Bluepoint Games received authorization from Sony to carry out this project. However, FromSoftware’s refusal prevented the remake from materializing. This situation has left many fans eager at the thought of a return to the unsettling atmosphere of Yharnam.
At least one spin-off was pitched
Brandon Sheffield, director of Necrosoft Games, revealed that his studio, along with others, has proposed to Sony to create sequels or remakes of Bloodborne. In a post on Bluesky, Sheffield stated: “You could find ten companies that have proposed a sequel, spin-off, or remake of Bloodborne, including mine.” This widespread interest in reviving the IP and its legacy indicates that the demand exists, but the final decision rests with FromSoftware.
Although Sony owns the intellectual property rights, FromSoftware exerts significant control over the fate of Bloodborne. Sheffield pointed out that, despite the rights belonging to Sony, any development related to the IP must have the approval of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s team. This dynamic reveals the complexity of the creative process in the video game industry and suggests that FromSoftware’s decisions may be guided by their preference for creating new works rather than remakes.
It is worth mentioning that FromSoftware has never developed a remake of any of its games, which leads to the conclusion that it is more likely they will focus on sequels before considering the development of a remake. In this sense, fans’ concerns may not find an answer in the short term, despite the memes and speculations that often arise around the acclaimed release.
