The BYD “Shenzhen” has officially embarked on its maiden voyage, marking a significant milestone as it becomes the world’s largest car transport vessel, capable of carrying 9,200 vehicles—equivalent to the size of 20 football fields.
Departing on April 27, the Shenzhen is currently en route to Brazil, transporting over 7,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs), which include a mix of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
This shipment represents the largest single batch of NEVs exported from China to date.

As BYD continues to expand its global footprint, the Shenzhen joins an impressive fleet of car carriers, with this vessel being its fourth launched since the company introduced its first, the Explorer No. 1, in January 2024.
The Explorer No. 1 has already completed numerous journeys to markets in Germany, Spain, and now Brazil, while the Changzhou and Hefei, both capable of carrying 7,000 vehicles, were launched subsequently.
The Shenzhen underscores BYD’s commitment to international growth, demonstrating the company’s determination to promote sustainable development in Brazil as it seeks to capture a significant share of the market.
In the first quarter of 2025, BYD has seen remarkable success, selling over 206,000 NEVs overseas—more than double the number sold during the same period last year. The company’s portfolio in Brazil features vehicles such as the affordable Dolphin Mini starting at approximately $20,000 (99,800 BRL) and the newly launched hybrid pickup truck, the Shark, priced at 379,800 BRL ($66,900).
Looking ahead, BYD plans to accelerate its international expansion with the upcoming launches of the Changsha and Xi’an, targeting vital markets across Europe, Southeast Asia, and beyond. With this ambitious strategy, BYD aims to significantly bolster its presence in the global automotive landscape.
