Infinity Ward is preparing for the release of the highly-anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and we’ve finally seen the trailer. Expect a continuation of the Task Force 141 story, but in a new and potentially surprising setting.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare followed a sequence of events that took place primarily in the fictional Islamic state of Urzikstan. The new game, however, teases gameplay on a global scale. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will follow the events of CoD: Modern Warfare but will be set in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

We’ll know more about the finer details of gameplay after today’s Summer Game Fest’s two-hour live showcase. For now, however, we can confirm that the game will feature underwater combat, offshore sieges, stealth missions, and brutal assaults from 30,000 feet in the air

Once you’ve played through this action-packed campaign, you’ll be able to tackle the co-op mode, where you can hone the team-building skills that you’ll need for the multiplayer component. We still don’t know exactly what this multiplayer component will look like yet, but we’ll likely have to wait a little longer to find out. For now, we’re most excited to see the longer playthrough of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

We also know for a fact that there will be three distinct editions of the game when it’s released. The first is the standard edition, which will feature standard gameplay in addition to rewards and the ability to upgrade. The next one up is the Cross-gen Digital Edition which will give you access to all previous generation console variants of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, in addition to the new version. The ultimate edition of the game for hardcore CoD fans is the Vault Edition. The Vault Edition contains the base game and the following packs:

  • The Red Team 141 Pack
  • FJX Cinder Weapon Vault
  • Season One Battle Pass
  • Ghost Legacy Pack
  • In-store Bonuses
  • Cross-Gen Edition

You can pre-order any of the digital editions right now, and if you pre-order, you’ll receive other digital rewards that will be officially announced at a later date.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 officially launches on October 28, 2022, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4, and PS5. Since the franchise is back on Steam, this launch will include the PC version too. Anyone who preorders the game will be granted early access to the open beta dropping first on PlayStation.

Now that we’ve received more information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it might be fun to check out our previous article on the subject, where we predicted what the then-upcoming trailer would reveal. I hail from the awe-inspiring beauty of South Africa. Born and raised in Pretoria, I've always had a deep interest in local history, particularly conflicts, architecture, and our country's rich past of being a plaything for European aristocracy. 'Tis an attempt at humor. My interest in history has since translated into hours at a time researching everything from the many reasons the Titanic sank (really, it's a wonder she ever left Belfast) to why Minecraft is such a feat of human technological accomplishment. I am an avid video gamer (Sims 4 definitely counts as video gaming, I checked) and particularly enjoy playing the part of a relatively benign overlord in Minecraft. I enjoy the diverse experiences gaming offers the player. Within the space of a few hours, a player can go from having a career as an interior decorator in Sims, to training as an archer under Niruin in Skyrim. I believe video games have so much more to teach humanity about community, kindness, and loyalty, and I enjoy the opportunity to bring concepts of the like into literary pieces.
