Colin Farrell, who plays Oswald Cobblepot, known as The Penguin, has expressed his reluctance to return for the second season of the series, despite the notable success of the first installment, which achieved a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In statements to Variety, Farrell said: I don’t want to do the second season. It’s not that I don’t want to, but I also don’t have a deep desire to do it. His concern seems to be centered on the fear that a new season could dilute the quality of the content presented in the first.
Their energy focused on The Batman 2
Farrell, who debuted as Oz in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, has left the door open to return to The Penguin if an idea that effectively complements the story of the current Batman cinematic universe is presented. Of course, if they think of something that works together as a parallel to Matt Reeves’ cinematic universe and it’s a good idea, I’m open to it, the actor added.
Despite his ambivalence towards the second season of The Penguin, it is important to highlight that Farrell is set to reprise his role in The Batman 2, the sequel to the successful film, which is scheduled to premiere in 2027. The first season of the series concluded with a shocking twist, where Oz betrays his closest ally, leading to speculation about his evolution in the upcoming movie.
As for The Penguin, the series is now available for viewing on Max. With expectations rising for a possible continuation, fans of this DC universe are eagerly awaiting more details about Farrell’s future as Oz and the expansion of Batman’s narrative.
