More than a decade later, Valve is preparing the most ambitious update in the history of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the shooter that saw the light of day as a Half-Life mod and ended up redefining the bases of the genre. As Richard Lewis points out in Forbes, the creators of Steam are preparing to migrate the game to the Source 2 engine, a maneuver with which they seek to improve performance, graphics, matchmaking and other types of elements that will take the CS:GO experience to a new level.

Although it hasn’t made any noise, the update is on the right track, since Lewis reports that Valve has invited professional players to come to its Seattle headquarters to test the virtues of this revision. Thus, the title will be added to the engine already used by other proposals from the company such as Dota 2 or Half-Life: Alyx, two products that are highly recognized by the firm’s followers. In fact, references to the aforementioned update have already appeared in forums such as Reddit, a portal in which the existence of two executable files called csgos2.exe and cs2.exe was published in the latest drivers published by NVIDIA.

Regarding the improvements that the change to Source 2 will bring, Forbes mentions a great leap in the game’s performance and graphics. At the same time, he also talks about aspects such as improved matchmaking, which will be more similar to options such as FACEIT or ESEA, or the increase of the tick rate from 64 to 128, a situation with which they will be able to reduce the latency of the game. Thus, although it is barely making noise, everything points to the fact that in the next few days CS:GO users will receive the most ambitious revision to date.

Valve, in addition to working on the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive update, is immersed in the future of Steam Deck, the portable console that debuted just over a year ago. As a result of its success, the company confirmed that there will be a new generation of it that will change aspects such as color, size or shape.
