The game promises a relentless pace and a lot of fun. But what do the critics say? We leave you with some of the first opinions that have arrived.

So far, it looks spectacular and seems to deliver everything it promises:

The gore in Dead Island 2 is on another level. It’s superior to anything else you’ve ever seen in a video game. The way the zombies crumble when you hit them, melt them and burn them really has to be seen to be believed. It’s gruesome and glorious at the same time. It’s like an early Peter Jackson film come to life.”- Eurogamer

“Judging from the few hours I’ve played the game, I think it’s safe to say that the studio has managed to find beauty in gore.”- Games Radar

Dead Island 2 is a big step in the right direction. The game’s setting in the beautiful Hollywood Hills is amazing.”- GGRecon

“Really, we have a solid basis to say that it’s a lot of fun to skin meat in the game. It’s been worth the wait” – IGN

“Combat is deliciously bloody” – Forbes
