Deadpool and Wolverine repeat the biggest problem of Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Marvels
We miss when the only cameo was Stan Lee

In recent years, Marvel Studios seems to have found two different ways to carry out their movies. On one hand, there are the original movies that follow the path of their first films; that is, telling personal stories with a very clear point of view to which some “collaborators” can join the party. This is the case of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
For better or worse, these recent movies work by having a spirit of their own that is based on the personality of their protagonists. However, the other path they have recently chosen is more controversial… and we sadly believe that it is less effective. This path is based on putting the crossover of characters above everything else, usually in favor of nostalgia, and looking for a story that serves as an excuse for it. This is what happened with The Marvels, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and obviously, with Deadpool and Wolverine.
All about the cameo!
Although in Deadpool and Wolverine the protagonist is able to make fun of the multiverse, cameos, and in general, the type of features that Marvel Studios has used excessively in recent years, the protagonist’s crudeness cannot save the film from being an even more childish artifact than the previous ones. Beyond Wolverine, the third act of Deadpool is nothing without its cameos… and that makes the movie forgettable in a very short time.

Just like what happened with Spider-Man: No Way Home, Deadpool and Wolverine seems to have short legs. Obviously, it’s going to be a box office hit that brings a nostalgic tear to our eyes when we see it in theaters. And, without giving away any spoilers, their cameos are truly unexpected. But will this film withstand the test of time? I don’t think anyone will understand even 20% of the jokes in the movie in ten years, and it’s so meta that it feels more like a Saturday Night Live skit than a movie with its own identity.
Deadpool and Wolverine triumph, in fact, when they forget about this. The chemistry between the two protagonists, their personal stories, and the excitement of some moments work like a charm, and save the film from being a complete disaster. But the exaggeration of cameos used as tributes, and the fact that all its humor is based on that, makes it nothing more than a movie that will succeed in its premiere and will be forgotten thereafter.
