The discussions on Discord have come to an end! Well, not really, but this will help: Discord has announced the launch of a poll feature for its messages and channels, as announced by the company this week. The new feature finally arrives after years of begging from users.

Although surveys are a common feature in messaging platforms and social networks (such as WhatsApp and Reddit, for example), this is the first function of this kind in Discord.

Discord stands out in a demonstration video of the feature that surveys can give you more control than the classic reaction-based voting system, which can be quite more complicated to manage. Now, instead of having a jumble of emojis in your message, you can provide people with different voting options.

You can participate in surveys in most places on Discord: if you can send messages in a channel, you will be able to create surveys, but if you can only view channels, you will not be able to create surveys but you can vote in them.

To create a poll on Discord, you must follow these steps:

  1. Open Discord and go to the server where you want to create the poll.
  2. Click on the plus sign (+) to the left of the message bar.
  3. Click on Poll.
  4. Enter the name and options for the poll. You can also add emojis.
  5. Click on the arrow next to Duration to set how long it will be available.
  6. Click on Publish in the upper right corner.

To vote in a poll, select the option you want and click on Vote. You cannot vote anonymously, but you can change your vote until the poll is closed. If you don’t see the option to create a poll, don’t worry: Discord says that the feature will take a couple of days to reach all users.
