Blizzard Entertainment has made the decision to increase the difficulty in Diablo IV with the launch of Season 8, scheduled for April 29. This measure responds to the complaints of many players who were able to complete idle content by remaining AFK, resulting in rewards without the corresponding effort. Colin Finer, lead live game designer, stated in an interview with PC Gamer that the team aims to balance the challenge the game offers, asserting that “without a challenge, you feel like you’re getting free candy.”
A change that will significantly increase the challenge
The decision to increase the difficulty has not been well received by the gaming community, generating a debate about the possible disconnection between development goals and fan expectations. Despite the criticism, the developers are convinced that this increase in the level of challenge will enrich the gaming experience. “We believe that extra point of difficulty will really help the game feel more rewarding,” added Finer, who also mentioned that after conducting tests in the Public Test Realm, they adjusted the difficulty levels based on the feedback received.
In addition to the increased difficulty, Season 8 will come with a change in Blizzard’s philosophy regarding content management in Diablo IV. Instead of just adding new elements with each season, the team plans to implement improvements to the existing features of the Action RPG, ensuring that the game evolves consistently. In this way, Blizzard aims to balance the inclusion of new challenges without making the game cumbersome or slowing down the players’ experience.
With an eye on these changes, Diablo IV fans eagerly await the launch of the new season and what promises to be a renewed experience in its dark world.
