It’s almost upon us! The long-awaited dark fantasy free-to-play Diablo Immortal finally has a release date. Blizzard Entertainment revealed in a brand new trailer that it will be coming to Android and iOS on June 2nd, 2022. Further news indicates that we can expect an open beta release for PC on the same day!

While we were expecting news on the release date, what caught us by surprise was the Diablo Immortal PC announcement. According to Blizzard Entertainment, the team was in two minds about whether they should do so. There were grave concerns that the mobile-to-PC adaptation wouldn’t do the fantasy game justice. So what changed their minds about releasing it with the mobile versions on June 2nd?

It was clear to the developers and publishers that PC gamers would want in on the action. Many Windows players would probably turn to Android emulators like BlueStacks to play Diablo Immortal on a computer. Based on this notion, Blizzard decided to rather create a proper experience with an authentic PC adaptation, which will also be free-to-play.

Of course, that means we’ll be able to use a keyboard and mouse to play it instead of tapping and sliding on mobile phones. One part of the announcement revealed that it would also be cross-play, so Windows gamers can join mobile players in events. It makes us wonder if we would then be able to access our Diablo Immortal account on mobile and PC, with the saved data synchronizing across both.

To think, only last month we were talking about how you can pre-order Diablo Immortal on mobile for a release on June 30th, and now the date has been brought forward to June 2nd. It’s certainly a pleasant surprise with several announcements in one, and we’re keen to start playing it as soon as possible.

Diablo III just released Season 26 with new armor sets, a new pennant, and a new pet at the end of Chapter 10. It will be interesting to see how many gamers remain on these servers with the Diablo Immortal finally releasing in a few weeks.
