The words “Discord” and “Gas” may be unfamiliar to the majority of us. We now have platforms like this, and the growth of social media platforms is nothing new. I’ll rapidly educate you by providing a succinct definition of each platform.
The popular messaging app Discord was created for online gaming communities. It has the capacity to create and join servers (community), participate in voice and text channels on those servers, and support voice and text chat. A wide range of third-party integrations are also available through Discord, including support for a number of games and gaming-related activities.
Gas is a social media application, previously known as Melt and Crush, that was launched in August 2022 by developers Nikita Bier, Dave Schatz, and Isaiah Turner. It was primarily created for high school students and aims to empower and uplift its audience through positive affirmations. It provides a positive platform for young people to express themselves.
Discord has announced the acquisition of Gas, a popular social media app among teens known for its positive atmosphere. Gas is primarily used by students to connect with friends and participate in polls about their classmates. According to Sensor Tower, Gas has generated $7 million in consumer spending and has been installed over 7.4 million times since its launch in 2022.
Despite the acquisition, Gas will remain a standalone app and its team will join Discord. According to Gas’s developer, Bier, the company only had 4 team members at the time of acquisition. The reason for the acquisition by Discord is mainly due to some unfortunate events that Gas has faced.
Although Discord has acquired Gas, they have decided to keep it as a separate entity and only announced that they plan to integrate some of its features into their servers. It is possible that community polls, which are a popular feature on Gas, may be integrated into the Discord messaging platform in the future. The terms and conditions of the acquisition have not been made public.
