Elden Ring from developers FromSoftware is one of the most anticipated game releases of 2022. Like other releases from FromSoftware, multiplayer is a significant component of the game. Elden Ring features many of the same trademarked multiplayer features players of Dark Souls and Bloodborne have come to love. However, everyone wonders whether Elden Ring will offer cross-platform multiplayer options?
At this stage, Elden RIng doesn’t support full cross-play between PCs and consoles. Unfortunately, this means that players on Xbox won’t be able to play with players on PC or Playstation and vice versa. Thanks to cross-generation support, the silver lining is that players will be able to play with players on the same family of consoles. This means that a player on Playstation 4 will be able to play with a player on Playstation 5. The same goes for Xbox One and Xbox series S/X players.
While it is possible that FromSoftware will be adding cross-play to the game in the future, it seems very unlikely when we look at previous games like Dark Souls, where cross-play also wasn’t an option.
Elden Ring’s multiplayer system works very similar to multiplayer in Dark Souls. Players use various items to ‘summon’ other players to their world or join another player. Some of these items include the Tarnished’s Furled Finger (to join other players) and the Furlcurling Finger Remedy (other players join you). You can see all the multiplayer items from the game’s main menu. From here, you can also set up passwords and apply filters so that only players you allow can join you.
The game is highly anticipated, and the multiplayer feature seems like a lot of fun. We hope that FromSoftware considers adding cross-platform support so that even more players can enjoy it together.
