Elon Musk claims the Tesla Cybertruck is "waterproof enough" to function as a boat, sparking skepticism after a recent owner misused its Wade Mode

Elon Musk recently made headlines with his audacious claim that the upcoming Tesla Cybertruck would be “waterproof enough” to temporarily function as a boat, capable of crossing rivers and lakes.
The CEO’s assertions, however, have drawn skepticism, particularly in light of existing warranty stipulations that advise against submerging the vehicle.
This skepticism was validated when a recent Cybertruck owner in Truckee, California, activated the vehicle’s ‘Wade Mode’ while attempting to traverse a body of water, only to find themselves stuck.
Elon Musk’s Cybertruck Claims Stir Skepticism Amid Latest Incident
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the incident, noting on social media, “Cybertruck activated ‘Wade Mode’… and waded a bit too far.” They urged users not to confuse ‘Wade Mode’ with any kind of submarine function, highlighting that such missteps could lead to unfortunate consequences.
While Tesla markets the ‘Wade Mode’ as a feature meant to enable the Cybertruck to handle wet terrain, it is activated through an off-road mode that, according to Tesla’s warranty, could potentially void any guarantees if misused.
Notably, unconventional use of the Cybertruck for aquatic adventures contradicts the manufacturer’s recommendations and has raised concerns about liability and safety.
Many new owners of the Cybertruck may not have sufficient experience with off-roading vehicles, and the incident is largely viewed as a user error rather than a fault with the truck itself. Experts suggest that potential off-road enthusiasts, especially those considering the Cybertruck, pursue proper guidance or training to avoid similar mishaps in the future.
While Musk’s ambitious visions continue to attract attention, buyers are admonished to approach his statements with caution, as past experiences suggest that claims about the capabilities of Tesla vehicles can often veer into the realm of exaggeration.
