Elon Musk, the entrepreneur behind Tesla and SpaceX, is attempting to secure $1 billion in funding for his AI company, xAI. With approximately $135 million already raised from four undisclosed investors, he aims to gather the remaining $865 million to reach his target.
The primary project under development at xAI is Grok, an AI chatbot. This innovative creation is designed to compete with existing AI bots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Bard, and Anthropic’s Claude. Grok’s unique feature is its ability to update itself with real-time knowledge from the X platform. However, the bot needs to be intelligent enough to differentiate between genuine news and misinformation.
In its early stages, Grok is expected to excel at answering unconventional questions other AI systems might avoid. X Premium+ subscribers will soon have access to the beta version exploring the chatbot’s capability further.
It’s worth mentioning that Elon Musk was a co-founder of OpenAI but stepped down from the board in 2018. He has recently been critical of the AI research organization, particularly due to the confusing management changes involving OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman.
While amassing the remaining $865 million in investment is no easy task, Elon Musk’s influence in the tech industry could potentially help him meet this challenge. The success of his AI venture will depend on xAI’s ability to deliver on its promises while ensuring investor confidence remains strong.
