Do our eyes deceive us, or is Elon Musk ready to throw in the towel as CEO of Twitter? It could just be a case of feeling sorry for himself, or perhaps there’s something else at play. Will Elon really stop being CEO while still owning the company? Based on what a few other people say, I don’t think so.

While Elon Musk was enjoying the World Cup this weekend, he decided to let Twitter folks vote on if he should resign as CEO of the platform. Keep in mind that he’ll still be the owner of the company. That means he can still have some say in the background, but someone else would take over to run the show.

What’s interesting is that he followed this up by posting, “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.” With all the layoffs at Twitter and Elon changing everything we know about the platform, isn’t that what we want? The last round of shenanigans went to show how Musk was willing to make Twitter his playground, banning members for stalking his location.

He also suspended accounts of journalists that covered news of the ElonJet saga or linked to Mastodon. These don’t seem like professional actions of a CEO, but rather, someone who wants to show he can do what he wants with his power.

Elon Musk vote CEO Twitter

It will be interesting to see if Elon actually steps down as CEO. Some have suggested that investors have asked him to step down, and he’s using the poll as a way to show that he cares for the people. There are some investors who commented that he remains and fight the good fight. With 57.5% voting that he resigns, it’s clear what the people really want.
