Facebook has added a minor update to its website to make sharing how you feel and what you’re doing much easier. While creating a new status update, users will see a new smiley face button next to the photo button. Clicking on it will open up options to share how you’re feeling, what you’re eating, drinking, watching, listening to, or reading. Sharing with these options will put a little icon of what you’re doing in the status update to make it easier to start a dialog.

This is great for those who want to write a status update about something specific instead of rambling on aimlessly. For example, if you want to foster a discussion about a band, you can post the band you’re listening to. There is a benefit for Facebook if users begin adopting this method of sharing since the company can gather more information about what users are interested in. The information learned from this type of sharing will undoubtedly be integrated into Facebook’s Graph Search.

The roll out has only happened for the users in the United States so it may be a while before Facebook users around the globe get this functionality.
