There are games for all kinds of players. That’s why, even within the realm of driving games, there are many different types. There are games encompassing various competitions, a wide array of vehicles, and even exploration, open-world, combat, or whatever else one can imagine. Some games are purely about challenging the terrain and being able to achieve seemingly impossible objectives using our tools, skills, and knowledge of both the terrain and our machine. This is because some games are crafted with a very specific audience in mind.
For years now, Saber Interactive has been doing precisely that with the MudRunner franchise. These demanding games put us in the shoes of a person who operates a truck and must complete seemingly impossible missions. Achieving cult success with SnowRunner, released on May 18, 2021, the franchise has now become beloved by both critics and the public.
That’s why it shouldn’t surprise us that Focus Entertainment has announced a new title in the franchise called Expeditions: A MudRunner Game during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event.
Putting ourselves in the shoes of a person amidst a scientific expedition, we will have to confront numerous challenges posed by nature to uncover the mysteries of a land that has never been visited before. Venturing into deserts, forests, mountains, and other biomes, the game promises to push us to our limits with terrain and driving physics unlike anything the series has seen before. This is to say, the most realistic physics ever witnessed in a driving game.
The game is set to be released sometime in 2024 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
