Since One Piece began over 25 years ago, Eiichiro Oda has made it clear that Devil Fruits would be something that, while helping many characters unlock their power, would not be essential for everyone. That’s why there are many characters who don’t need Devil Fruit powers to be strong, such as Shanks or Dracule Mihawk, and most of the Straw Hat crew members fall into this category.

Neither Sanji, Zoro, nor Nami, to name just three of Luffy’s main companions, have a Devil Fruit (Akuma no Mi) that grants them supernatural powers. That’s why Eiichiro Oda has been asked about what fruits they would have in a hypothetical case… and he has answered in the inside of Volume 98 of One Piece.

Zoro and Nami would have all-powerful fruits

Oda’s answers have been so interesting that it’s almost a pity that we can’t see them, in reality, with these Devil Fruits. The mangaka starts with Nami, who would have the Goro Goro no Mi, the impressive Logia Devil Fruit that Enel has and allows the mastery of lightning power. This fits perfectly with her Clima-Tact, with which she can unleash bursts of lightning.

As for Zoro, he would have the incredibly powerful Zoan Mythical Fruit of Kaido, thus being able to transform into a dragon. This is one of the most powerful Devil Fruits of all, and it also fits well with the personalities of Kaido and Zoro, as both are heavy drinkers.

Regarding Sanji, his fruit is equally interesting. According to Oda, he would have the Sui Sui Fruit of Senor Pink. Although this Paramecia is unknown, it is very interesting: it allows the user to swim through solid surfaces like the ground, and undoubtedly, it would be great for Sanji’s kick-based fighting style.

The list continues with Usopp, who would receive the amusing Poke Poke no Mi, Blamenco’s Paramecia Devil Fruit that allows creating infinite pockets inside oneself. Thanks to this ability, Usopp could pull out all kinds of tools and gadgets at any moment, optimizing his combat style.

Lastly, Franky would receive the Buki Buki no Mi fruit from Baby 5, a Paramecia that allows the user to turn any part of their body into a weapon. It’s somewhat similar to what Franky already does with his cyborg structure… but in a much more direct way. What do you think about these choices?
