Technology has become an integral part of our lives, and with that, it has to face some challenges, such as the ones posed by sensitive or explicit content. It is a particularly concerning issue when children can be exposed to such content. To tackle this, Apple has introduced a new feature in its upcoming iOS 17 update, which could be a blessing for concerned parents and a concern for sites like Pornhub and similar platforms.

“This could be sensitive”

This new feature is called “Sensitive Content Warnings” and is designed to automatically block incoming messages and files that may contain sensitive content, such as nudity. The feature, which needs to be manually enabled if we want to use it, applies to sensitive images sent through Messages, AirDrop, the new Contact poster, FaceTime messages, and, importantly, third-party apps.

It is a great help in protecting iPhone users from being exposed to unwanted images of this nature. Unlike cloud-based solutions, Apple prioritizes our privacy and performs all the detection process on our device, ensuring that not even Apple has access to the shared content.

The Sensitive Content Warnings are, in fact, a further step taken from the Communication Safety features that Apple introduced exclusively for children last year. It is a functionality that detects and blocks nude images before children can see them, and now, with iOS 17, it not only expands to include AirDrop, the system’s photo picker, FaceTime messages, and third-party apps but can be used regardless of our age.

Apple’s initiative to increase security and protect users from explicit content is undoubtedly a step in the right direction. Providing options to protect users, especially children, and creating a safer digital environment is excellent news, especially considering that we have the choice to activate it.
