Adobe has launched a new and powerful mobile Photoshop application that includes many of the design, editing, and generative artificial intelligence tools found in the desktop version.
The application integrates with Photoshop on the web to allow creatives to work on projects across multiple devices and is available worldwide starting today on iPhone, and on Android “by the end of this year,” according to Adobe.
A simplified version of the popular editing software called Photoshop Express has been available on mobile devices since 2010, but Adobe claims that the new app is more powerful and offers a wider range of recognizable capabilities from Photoshop.
The two applications share some common features, such as tools for resizing, masking, adjusting contrast/saturation, and removing objects or imperfections, but while Photoshop Express is similar to more typical mobile editing apps like Picsart and Facetune, the new Photoshop app is closer to the desktop experience.
For those who want greater control and precision, the Photoshop on Mobile Premium plan unlocks access to exclusive features, as well as the full web application of Photoshop, allowing users to seamlessly transfer any project from their phone to their browser for increased precision and control.
What the free and paid version of Adobe Photoshop for iOS offers
The free version offers users access to many Photoshop editing tools, such as the Spot Healing Brush, Quick Selection, layers, selections, masks, and features for composing and merging images.
It also provides Adobe Stock assets, integrates directly with Creative Cloud applications like Adobe Express, Lightroom, and Fresco, and includes Adobe’s Generative Fill and Generative Expand AI tools, which work with Firefly.

Other Photoshop features, such as Object Selection, Magic Wand, Content-Aware Fill, Clone Stamp, and the Eraser tool, require a monthly subscription of $7.99 or an annual subscription of $69.99.
This premium Photoshop plan for mobile and web also includes light/dark adjustment options, advanced blending modes to control transparency, color effects, styles, and integration with Photoshop on the web, as well as access to Generate similar and reference images on the web platform.
All users who are already subscribed to a paid Photoshop plan will receive premium access to Photoshop on mobile.
Summary of the features of the new app for iOS:
- Nine selection tools; color fill, the 7 most popular adjustment layers provide an optimized experience for selecting and editing
- Paint and retouch with spot correction, general removal, general fill, general expansion, removal tool, and cloning stamp allow you to add, remove objects and adjust images with professional precision easily
- Detailed layers, 27 blending modes, creating and editing masks unlock unlimited creativity
- Add professional quality content with free stock content, generate images, add from the Lightroom camera roll, and create new features

With this release, Adobe manages to unify and enhance its offering of creative tools, allowing all its customers to work regardless of where and when. The Android app will arrive later.
