Google wants us to search better than ever and to buy cheaper, and it puts its AI at our disposal

Google Chrome for desktop is ready to receive a series of AI-powered features through multiple updates aimed at helping users find products on the Internet.
There will be three in total, with the first one being a change in the functionality of Google Lens that will allow it to behave similarly to the Pixel 8 Search Circle.
According to the announcement, clicking on the tool icon in the browser URL allows you to select an object on the screen. When you click on something, it will be highlighted and visual matches will be displayed from a side panel, similar to a Google search result.
The company claims that users can use the multi-search to further refine the search “by color, brand or other detail”. And thanks to Gemini, you can ask “follow-up questions to delve deeper into a topic”.
You can also receive an AI summary that collects relevant information and presents it in text form, although its appearance depends on what you ask.
It should be noted that this feature briefly appeared in a recent Chrome beta. Despite its short duration in the testing phase, Google must have thought that the tool was already ready for a proper release.
The company adds that it is not necessary to click on the Google Lens icon at the top. Users have the option to activate it by opening the “right-click or three-dot menu”.
An extension for us to buy at the best price
In the coming weeks, Chrome will get Tab Compare, which will allow you to combine multiple tabs of similar products into a single window and display AI-generated descriptions for each one. Google gives the example of someone looking to buy a portable Bluetooth speaker.

A tab comparison window could display three different speakers from three different brands highlighting key information such as price, battery life, weight, specifications, and a brief product summary.
It is not known how these AI comparisons are made. The article does not mention whether instructions need to be given to the browser to perform them or if they are done automatically.
Finally, Chrome aims to make it easier to search for web pages in the browser history thanks to generative artificial intelligence. Instead of searching through dozens of links, you can ask questions. Google provides another example where a user asks Chrome to show them the ice cream shops they visited last week. The browser will display all the “relevant pages from your [personal] history”.
Just like Tab Compare, the browser history update will be implemented in the coming weeks, starting in the United States. It is unknown when it will be extended to other countries, although we have asked.
