Google Search has changed a lot in the last two years, with new features and an increasing focus on artificial intelligence, and now it seems that even more changes are coming in this area. This week, the tech giant has appointed Liz Reid as the new Director of Google Search, who has announced more AI innovations.

The appointment of Reid is one of the most significant changes that have recently taken place in the Search department. According to Search Engine Land, in addition to Liz Reid, who takes on the role of Head of Search, Cheenu Venkatachary will now lead “Search Quality and Ranking”. On the other hand, Pandu Nayak will be the new Chief Scientist of Search, and Cathy Edwards will join the “Long-term Bets” team in Knowledge and Information.

The biggest change comes with the appointment of Liz Reid (who has been working at Google since 2003) as Director of Search, a position of great relevance within Google for obvious reasons. In her new role, Reid will report to Prabhakar Raghavan, a long-time senior vice president of the company and responsible for areas such as Search, Assistant, and Ads, among others.

“We are pleased to announce that we are going to unify the Search department under the leadership of Liz Reid, a veteran and respected leader at Google with extensive technical and product knowledge,” Google said in a statement.

“We have a great momentum in Search, with recent improvements in search quality, new ways to search like Circle to Search, and features that use generative AI to help with even more complex questions. For example, SGE (Search Generative Experience), which is still just a Search Labs feature, has already been used in billions of queries. We are excited to bring our search teams together under its leadership.”
