Greenlane Partners With Volvo Trucks to Transform Heavy-Duty Electric Vehicle Charging

Greenlane has announced a pioneering partnership with Volvo Trucks North America aimed at revolutionizing the accessibility of charging heavy-duty electric vehicles (HDEVs).

This collaboration marks Greenlane as the first official Charge Point Operator (CPO) in North America to team up with Volvo, integrating their services into Volvo’s Open Charge network.

Greenlane, a joint venture that includes Daimler Truck North America, NextEra Energy, and BlackRock, is constructing a national charging network for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

The initiative seeks to reduce operational costs and aid in the transition to electric fleets, alleviating the financial burden on customers who might otherwise spend significantly on their own charging infrastructure.

Through the Open Charge platform, Volvo customers will now have real-time access to Greenlane’s public charging stations, simplifying logistics with centralized billing and exclusive user benefits.

Greenlane’s CEO, Patrick Macdonald-King, highlighted the collaboration as a “first-of-its-kind” effort to provide tailored public charging solutions for medium- and heavy-duty fleets. “It’s all about making the shift to electric trucks smoother,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the flow of goods and services while advancing towards zero-emission freight.

The flagship charging station for this initiative is set to open in Colton, California, in April, featuring over 40 publicly accessible chargers for a range of electric vehicles.

This site will serve as a cornerstone for a much larger network planned along the I-15 corridor, with charging stations spaced approximately 60 to 90 miles apart. Future sites are already slated for cities including Long Beach, Barstow, and Baker.

Greenlane and Volvo are also enhancing their offering by incorporating membership features into the Volvo Open Charge service, such as booking reservations, which will further streamline the charging experience for fleets transitioning to electric trucking.
