The host of the Game Awards, Geoff Keighley, has once again been approached by a young troll who has been terrorizing German television for years.
This time, the spontaneous individual appeared during the live presentation of the opening night of Gamescom 2023. This person managed to get on stage and told the audience that “Bill Clinton wants to play GTA VI.” Keighley’s expression made it clear that he wasn’t prepared for it.
The incident occurred in the early minutes of the celebration, between Starfield’s composer, Inon Zur, performing one of the main themes of the open-world science fiction RPG, and director Todd Howard taking the stage to showcase the gameplay to the viewers.
Keighley was rejoicing in having been able to play the highly anticipated video game, just before the German troll took to the platform to have his moment of glory.
The unplanned interruption brought to mind a moment from last year’s Game Awards ceremony when a young man crashed the stage behind the Elden Ring development team and began talking nonsense about Bill Clinton and Orthodox Judaism.
In the end, he was detained and questioned by the police before being released, and it was revealed that he was Matan Even, a Reddit troll who had gone viral for several similar situations in the past, the latest being this weekend.
“This is a very special night for many, and it’s very disappointing to see someone behave this way, but we’ll move forward with the program,” Keighley said today. “It’s really sad to see something like this happen on a night when we’re here to celebrate games and what they mean to us.”
Fortunately, Howard appeared moments later to the sound of Starfield’s music without missing a beat. At that point, we had all forgotten about the troll; the games were what mattered.
