Since the director of Super and current co-president of DC Studios got to work with the adaptation of these Marvel space heroes, the group has not stopped gaining fans, becoming one of the most beloved brands in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. With nothing to envy to The Avengers and with an increasingly relevant role, the Guardians were gaining importance in the UCM, until becoming the main rivals of Thanos.

With his third film, it is expected to put an end to dozens of open plots since his appearance, as well as resolve many doubts that are in the air: where does Rocket come from? what will happen with Peter and Nebula? will Drax get over his desire for revenge?

We will be able to know all this starting this Friday, in a feature film that promises to be Marvel’s best since Avengers: Endgame. However, considering that it’s been six years since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was released, we understand that many don’t remember where we came from. So, we leave you with a chronology of all the Guardians of the Galaxy appearances, so you can prepare for this grand finale.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014, James Gunn)

The first appearance of the team led by Peter Quill was in 2014, when James Gunn told the first story about this unknown group that soon became a Marvel Studios icon. Thanks to its space opera narrative, its good work with music taken directly from the eighties and its well-handled humor, it became a great success that many have later tried to imitate. Undoubtedly, it is one of the most rounded films of the entire UCM.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017, James Gunn)

Just three years after the Guardians’ first appearance, the sequel to the original film arrived. It delved much deeper into the protagonist’s past and we discovered Peter Quill’s father, Ego the Living Planet. Really, it was more about what we already saw, but although it left us with many interesting elements like Baby Groot, not everyone liked it as much as the first film.

3. I am Groot (2022, Kirsten Lepore)

This short animated series of only 5 episodes arrived just a year ago, but is chronologically placed after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It consists of short films where we see Groot in different situations of the most fun and endearing. It’s okay to miss it, but it has all the spirit of Guardians of the Galaxy.

4. Avengers: Infinity War (2018, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo)

The next big movie featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy is already Avengers: Infinity War. Just a year after seeing what happened to the group led by Star-Lord, the space heroes join the Avengers to fight a common enemy: Thanos. There are several wonderful Guardians moments in this movie: the connection between Thor and Rocket, Drax’s spirit of vengeance… it certainly feels like just another Guardians movie.

5. Avengers: Endgame (2019, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo)

Barely a year after Infinity War, we saw the epic conclusion to the story of the Infinity saga. Although most of the Guardians here have disappeared because of Thanos’ snap, there are three characters that gain a great prominence: Nebula, Gamora and Rocket Raccoon. Without a doubt, just to see them again at the end of the film, Endgame is worth a second look.

Available on Disney Plus.

6. Thor: Love and Thunder (2022, Taika Waititi)

Three years after Endgame and with a pandemic in between, we saw the Guardians again with Thor, who traveled with them to overcome the trauma. In this feature film, the weight of the Guardians is rather testimonial, but it is a film very much in the tone of James Gunn’s films, so it is worth to sink your teeth into it again.

7. Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special (2022, James Gunn)

This may sound silly to you, but this 40-minute special perfectly sums up why we love Guardians of the Galaxy so much. It is an independent story that serves the humor, but it is to see James Gunn in a state of grace with the characters that it will be so difficult for him to let go. Definitely worth watching before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
