The launch of Helldivers 2 has exceeded the initial expectations of Arrowhead Game Studios, reaching nearly half a million concurrent users on Steam. This figure contrasts sharply with internal forecasts that estimated between three and six million copies sold over the game’s lifecycle, considering it an unexpected success for a franchise that had not particularly stood out until now.

However, the path to this success has not been without difficulties. Since its launch, the game has faced a barrage of negative criticism related to its performance, which forced the studio to maintain a constant dialogue with the player community. Former president Johan Pilestedt has pointed out that, despite the legitimacy of the complaints, it is essential to distinguish between real issues and misconceptions, as not all feedback reflects the general opinion of the public.
Despite the criticism, Pilestedt estimates that approximately 80% of the opinions received are negative, since satisfied players generally do not express their comments. “The community is incredibly heterogeneous,” he emphasizes, which complicates the analysis of the feedback received. Therefore, Arrowhead has been learning to listen to users and has worked on adapting to their needs and expectations.
Helldivers 2 has also been an example of how a game can improve through continuous feedback. This is demonstrated by the commitment of its developers to provide updates and fix issues, even those that may have arisen from an unexpectedly successful launch. As the game establishes itself in the market, its evolution shows that the relationship with the community can be key to the sustainable success of a title in the challenging world of video games.
