‘P.T.’: two letters that will forever live in gaming infamy. The game on which Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro were working, serving as a preview for ‘Silent Hills,’ which Konami ended up canceling. The playable teaser, acclaimed and awarded worldwide, lasted less than a year before the studio removed it. And since then, we hadn’t heard anything. Until now.

“I don’t live there anymore; I’ve been stuck in Silent Hill for two years”

In the trailer for his new game, Hideo Kojima drops a couple of nods to his ‘P.T.’ that spark speculation. Firstly, the name ‘OD‘ mirrors ‘P.T.’ by being composed of just two letters. It wouldn’t be surprising, considering ‘Silent Hill’ aims for a comeback in the coming years. And what more resounding way to resurrect it than by bringing back the canceled game everyone wants to see?

But these aren’t just random musings: in the ‘OD’ trailer, Udo Kier articulates the letters forming the word “Atami,” though it’s hard to notice at normal speed. You might not recognize it, but Atami was the real town name that developers used as the basis for creating the first ‘Silent Hill‘ back in 1999.

There’s more: at the Game Awards, Kojima emerged from a door that resembles the one from the beginning of ‘P.T.,’ which can also be seen reflected in Sophia Lilis’s eyes at the 1:14 mark. At this point, considering the clues received, it’s clear that this game will be what ‘P.T.’ originally intended, except this time the developer has teamed up with Jordan Peele instead of Del Toro.

It also seems evident that Konami isn’t behind this project (or they would have made a big announcement), so their efforts to revive the ‘Silent Hill’ series might have been just a fortunate coincidence. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but everything seems to indicate that one of the biggest mysteries in gaming history is close to being unraveled.
