Financial documents full of numbers can be quite boring unless you enjoy them, as is the case with the writer here. However, among the digits that showcase how a game or downloadable content has performed, there are some very interesting figures, as is the case now with the copies sold of Resident Evil.
Capcom has today released its latest fiscal report, that that covers the period from April 1 to June 30, 2024. In the following paragraphs, we will provide some economic figures, but we want to start with an incredible fact: the Resident Evil saga has already sold over 160 million units. That’s something!
The Japanese company revealed this impressive figure in the aforementioned document, as well as the fact that Resident Evil Village has become the best-selling game in the franchise: 10 million units in just 3 years.
On the other hand, the Japanese have also revealed details about some of their latest games available on the market. For example, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold 461,000 copies in these three months, totaling almost 3.1 million games. Considering it was released in March, these numbers are incredible. Similarly, Street Fighter 6 has accumulated 3.7 million games in one year (and the franchise as a whole, over 55 million), while Resident Evil 4 Remake has already reached 7.6 million in one year and three months.
In terms of purely financial percentages, Capcom has indicated that net sales decreased by 32.5% compared to the same quarter last year, while operating income was 46.4% lower. This reduction has a clear reason, which is none other than the release of Street Fighter 6 in June 2023, which boosted the numbers. Despite this decrease, Capcom is still on track to meet their established financial results.
