We recently witnessed the premiere of ‘Takeshi’s Castle’ on Amazon Prime Video, which is the return of the classic show ‘Humor Amarillo’. In this new revival, the show features a different dubbing team led by Dani Rovira, Jorge Ponce, and Eva Soriano. However, it seems that many people have not liked the result.
The fact that there would be complaints was something we could all expect. Playing with nostalgia is a double-edged sword, for better or for worse. In the case of ‘Takeshi’s Castle’, the dubbing was one of the key factors that made the format successful in Spain in the 2000s. Now, users have taken to social media (especially Twitter) to protest against the current commentators and also inquire about the original version. And their requests were heard: Prime Video Spain’s official account has announced that the Japanese version will be available on July 25th.

As we mentioned before, people haven’t held back. After Prime Video’s announcement, users have taken the opportunity to heavily criticize the dubbing of the show:

‘Takeshi’s Castle’ landed in Spain in the 1990s, first on Telecinco and later on Cuatro. This peculiar game show, originally from Japan and narrated by Juan Herrera and Miguel Angel Coll, achieved the impossible: finding a place in Spanish popular culture.
Expressions like ‘cudeiro’ or ‘zamburguesas’ have remained relevant for over 30 years. Amazon Prime Video has tried to revive the spirit of the original show by maintaining its light-hearted humor but removing the more controversial expressions. However, the decisions regarding the new dubbing don’t seem to have pleased many people.
