It’s a fairly common trend in the world of video games: every so often, servers for countless titles end up closing for good, either because the player count isn’t high enough anymore or simply because it’s time. Unfortunately, now it’s the turn for quite a few Electronic Arts games, including many high-profile ones.
To be exact, during these last hours, the servers of the following video games have been shut down:
- Dead Space 2 (PC)
- Crysis 3 (PC)
- Mirror’s Edge Catalyst (PC)
- Battlefield Bad Company 2 (PC)
- Battlefield Bad Company
- Battlefield 1943
- Dante’s Inferno
As you can see, among the titles whose servers are closing, many make sense, such as Dead Space 2 or even Dante’s Inferno. However, it also affects others where there were still active players, as in the case of Battlefield Bad Company 2. In fact, a user has posted a video on Reddit showing the last few minutes of gameplay before the shutdown.
The clip leaves no room for doubt: despite enjoying the online experience, the game abruptly cuts off. The rest is just the classic error message stating “connection to server not available,” clearly indicating that it’s not an issue with the internet connection but rather that there won’t be any more online play in the entire history of Battlefield Bad Company 2.
It’s a shame that these decisions are made, especially when it concerns some games that still have a small group of dedicated players. In the cost-cutting policies of companies, it’s not just about layoffs; it also involves depriving elements like this from the gaming experience.
