Brittney Morris, the game’s writer, gave an interview to Gizmodo to discuss everything related to the web-slinger’s adventure. During this conversation, Morris revealed many details about the development, including who will be the protagonist of the next installment.
As any player who has completed the game will know, the final conversation between Peter Parker and Miles Morales makes it clear that Parker needs a break, so no one better than Miles to take up the mantle and save New York. “It was always very natural, and I think collectively, we all knew it was going to happen,” Morris said about this transition. “For me, it shows Miles’ great evolution: at the beginning of the game, we see him struggling with what he wants to do with his life. In the end, Miles bears the pressure of saving the city, but also supporting Pete when Pete didn’t have enough strength to fight for himself.”
On the other hand, Ben Arfmann, the game’s narrative director, indicated that the entire studio was convinced it was necessary to shift from one protagonist to another: “The idea of a story with two Spider-Men was always key to the video game. Very early in development, we were aware that we wanted to have that moment where the torch is passed. As we developed both characters, it just felt right as the moment approached.”
Although Miles Morales is going to be the protagonist of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, it doesn’t mean that Parker is going to die or anything like that. His appearance during the game is possible. After all, he’s just taking a (well-deserved) vacation.
