Despite TikTok being the undisputed queen of the social media landscape, Instagram wants to prove that it is still alive and has a lot to offer. The Meta social network is reportedly testing an expansion of its Collections feature, allowing users to share collections of posts on their profile, which could help to better understand their interests.
In the screenshot published on Twitter by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, it can be seen that the option of Public Collections on Instagram would be available through your Instagram profile and visible to any visitor who enters the app.
The experiment would be an extension of the Collaborative Collections feature that Instagram launched in March of last year, which allows users to start a private discussion based on a post where any user in the chat can add posts to the screen.

Collaborative Collections were in turn an improvement of Collections, which were private at the time and could only be seen by their creators. These, which function as an additional option, allow us to save our posts both privately and publicly, creating categories of posts together with our friends.
The objective of this function is to encourage participation in chats with friends and acquaintances, using messages as a basis for generating new discussions, something similar to this new experiment, but more individually focused than in chat. Instagram has been developing this option since September 2023, and Paluzzi has also shared several examples of the actual publishing process in action.

The screenshots show us that the option is still under development, so its public release is not guaranteed. It is a very interesting experiment that could provide a new way to interact with people who share our tastes and meet new people.
In addition, the feature could also be very useful for brands that want to advertise their products on Instagram.
