The summer development cycle continues with the release of the fourth beta of iOS 18, an update that, although it does not present major innovations, introduces changes in various functionalities and system adjustments. Let’s see all the changes in this latest version, which is already available for developers and is expected to be extended to public beta users next week.

The news list is not long, but very specific. The exact changes we see in this version of iOS 18 are as follows:

  • CarPlay Wallpapers: Following the design of the new iOS 18 wallpapers for iPhone, Apple has added eight new wallpaper options for CarPlay, with four available in light mode and four in dark mode. These new designs offer greater visual consistency between the iPhone and the CarPlay system.

  • Camera app menu control: A new option called “Controls menu” has been added to the camera app settings, allowing us to keep the previously used camera tool when expanding the controls menu, instead of showing the full list of options.
  • Icon and animation redesign: The icons in dark mode and light mode now automatically sync with the system settings. Additionally, the Stocks app icon has been subtly redesigned to reduce the white haze at the bottom. A new animation has also been added to the “Subscriber” icon in the iCloud menu.
  • More accessibility options in iCloud: It is now easier to access iCloud options directly from the main menu of the Settings app, placing it alongside options like App Store, Game Center, and Wallet and Apple Pay.
  • Accessibility options in AssistiveTouch: New options for “Type to Siri” and “Apple Watch Mirroring” have been included in the AssistiveTouch options menu.
  • Hidden app folder: Apple has modified the design of the hidden app folder in the app library, replacing the crossed-out eye icon with blank squares, making the folder less visible.
  • More options for iPhone duplication with macOS Sequoia: In conjunction with macOS Sequoia beta 4, it is now possible to adjust the size of the iPhone duplication window on the Mac screen.
  • RCS Activation: RCS support has been enabled on several new carriers, including Fido Canada, Orange Spain, Vodafone Spain, Yoigo Spain, Movistar Spain, T-Mobile UK, Orange UK, and more, paving the way for the official arrival of this feature with iOS 18.

Although iOS 18 beta 4 does not bring us any important news, the improvements and adjustments allow us to see how Apple will perfect both the user experience and the visual coherence and functionality in the system. Changes that will officially arrive this fall and will also be available in the public beta of all systems in a few days.
