Is Jaguar’s Type 00 the Future of Luxury EVs or Just a Fantasy Ride?

Jaguar’s radical EV concept, the Type 00, made its official public debut in Paris this week, generating both excitement and skepticism.

The vehicle has been compared to fictional designs, with many likening it to the whimsical cars driven by characters like the Pink Panther and Barbie.

Celebrities including Barry Keoghan, Jamie Dornan, and Zoë Saldaña were spotted taking the two-door electric vehicle for a spin, adding to its visibility and allure.

The company is targeting a price point of approximately £150,000

Since its unveiling late last year, the Type 00 has become a focal point for discussions about Jaguar’s future in the luxury EV market. The concept’s unique design has invited both praise and playful mockery, causing even Tesla CEO Elon Musk to weigh in on the conversation.

Despite the mixed reception, Jaguar appears to be embracing the spotlight, hoping to reposition itself within the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.

Jaguar’s leadership, including CEO Adrian Mardell, envisions this bold concept as part of a broader strategy to revamp the brand. The company is targeting a price point of approximately £150,000 (nearly $200,000) for the first production model, a luxury four-door GT set to launch around mid-2026.

The vehicle is expected to boast an impressive range of around 430 miles for its most efficient variant, showcasing Jaguar’s commitment to innovation in electric engineering.

The Type 00 is just the beginning, as Jaguar plans to unveil at least two additional electric models, including a sedan and an SUV, in the coming years. According to Rawdon Glover, the managing director, the transition signifies a pivotal moment for Jaguar as it enters “a very different phase” of vehicle engineering and design, alongside a new logo and aesthetic that reflects a modern, electric future.
