Mercedes-Benz Unveils Game-Changing 800-Volt Electric Van Architecture

Mercedes-Benz is set to revolutionize its electric van lineup with the introduction of a new 800-volt electrical architecture that promises faster charging capabilities.

During recent cold-weather testing in Arjeplog, Sweden, the automaker confirmed that these next-generation models will incorporate a 22-kW AC onboard charger, enhancing operational efficiency for professional users.

The upcoming electric vans will be built on a new platform known as Van.EA, marking a significant shift to an electric-first approach.

This architecture will differentiate future electric models from their combustion counterparts, which will utilize a variant termed Van.CA. Notably, the electric vans will feature advanced capabilities such as four-wheel steering and all-wheel drive—options previously exclusive to Mercedes electric passenger vehicles.

This development raises the expectation for dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, while single-motor versions will feature front-wheel drive instead of the rear-wheel drive system seen in current models like the eSprinter.

Mercedes plans to expand its commercial offerings with a robust lineup that includes various work vehicles, alongside a more luxurious concept model dubbed the Vision V, set for production in the coming year. Such diversification aims to cater to a growing market demand while maintaining the brand’s commitment to innovation.

Looking ahead, Mercedes also aims to blend its electric and internal-combustion vehicle lines more seamlessly. The anticipated 2026 CLA-Class, for instance, is expected to offer all-electric versions alongside 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrains.

Recent announcements further indicate the launch of electric iterations of the larger C-Class and E-Class sedans, as well as the GLC-Class crossover, which recently underwent testing in Arjeplog.
