Tesla Cybertruck Repair Costs Skyrocket to Over $57,000 After Collision

A recent incident involving a Tesla Cybertruck has highlighted the potential pitfalls associated with the repair costs of innovative automotive technology.

A compact car collided with a parked Cybertruck in Los Angeles, damaging the rear suspension and leading to an astounding repair estimate of over $57,000.

Initially, the damage appeared minor, but the complexities of the Cybertruck’s design quickly turned a routine repair into a total loss.

Tesla Cybertruck Crash Reveals Shocking Repair Costs

The Cybertruck, which boasts several groundbreaking features including a partially 48-volt electronic architecture, drive-by-wire steering, and a stainless steel exterior, has gained notoriety for its advanced engineering.

However, as the experience of automotive publication Edmunds reveals, these innovations can also lead to unexpectedly high repair costs. Following the crash, Edmunds reported that repairs were not feasible due to exorbitant fees, ultimately resulting in the vehicle being declared a total loss and selling for a mere $8,000 at auction.

In particular, the breakdown of estimated repair costs illustrated the stark reality of high-tech machinery: $9,000 for fixing the bed, $2,500 for the bumper, alongside $16,500 for labor.

This significant expense raises questions about the practicality of owning such a vehicle, especially when the Cybertruck was marketed as a rugged, “apocalypse-proof” solution designed to withstand the rigors of everyday use.

Compounding the issue, there are only two Tesla Collision Centers in the Los Angeles area equipped to work on Cybertrucks, leading to lengthy wait times—up to a month for estimates and several additional months for repairs.

This incident serves as a cautionary tale for prospective Cybertruck owners, who may not fully grasp the implications of owning a vehicle that combines innovation with unpredictable maintenance costs.
