We are used to video games being announced years in advance. When a big announcement is made, it is not uncommon for it to be announced even before development begins. A good example is the fifth installment of Fallout, which from what we know, is likely to be released no earlier than 2030. But other games choose the opposite approach. Not coming out of nowhere, but rather announcing themselves only when they have a near date and something solid to show. Something that has been the case with the new game from Warhorse Studios.
The Czech studio, owned by Deep Silver, has confirmed that they are working on the second installment of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Titled Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, the game has been presented with a 13-minute trailer, full of real-time gameplay. With statements from its developers, who appear in the video itself, they have made it clear that the game focuses on a realistic approach to the Middle Ages. This means a bloody style of gameplay, consequences for all our actions, and characters who will act in accordance with our own reputation. Making it a true fantasy for lovers of this kind of RPGs.
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, we will continue the events where the first one left off, putting ourselves in the shoes of Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Taking place in Bohemia, during the 15th century, we will face a plot of betrayal, revenge, and self-discovery as Bohemia inevitably heads towards a civil war.
In addition to adding ranged weapons, including primitive firearms, and a completely revamped combat system, there is an even more important element that will be added in this sequel. Greater diversity in the casting of characters. The original was exclusively composed of white people, mostly men, to which the studio defended itself by saying that historically there were no people of color in Bohemia. In addition, various historians demonstrated that this was false, and the game’s art director was linked to different far-right movements, causing a great uproar.
Now it seems that in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, in pursuit of that promised realism, we will indeed see greater phenotypic diversity. Although the role of women will probably still not be prominent. If you are interested in this RPG, you should know that it will be released this year, but it still lacks a specific date. That and it will be exclusively available for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
