If you watched yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play, you were surely blown away by the last announcement of the night. After the impressive Death Stranding 2 trailer, Kojima announced that he was creating a new spy game.

Kojima Productions will release Death Stranding 2 On the Beach for PS5 next year, while the studio is also working on the cloud horror game OD with Microsoft, but that’s not all.

To close yesterday’s conference, the first State of Play of 2024, Sony announced that, together with their studio, Metal Gear creator, Hideo Kojima, is collaborating with PlayStation to return to the stealth genre.

What do we know about Kojima’s new IP

It will be done with Physint, a completely new IP, and describes the game as a “next-generation action and espionage game”.

And how long until this game is released? Well, it will take some time. Kojima states that the preparations for the project are underway, but production will not begin until after the release of Death Stranding 2, next year. Oh, and he describes it as “the culmination of his work after almost 40 years”.

“The preparations are underway, but production will start in earnest at Kojima Productions after Death Stranding 2,” said Kojima. “We have extensive experience with Sony, as we have cultivated the espionage genre together for almost 30 years. In addition, Sony not only makes games, but also music and movies. Undoubtedly, it will be a great collaboration.”

“In two years, I will celebrate the 40th anniversary of my career as a game producer. I am confident that this title will be the culmination of my work.”

In typical Kojima fashion, Physint will also be developed using cutting-edge technology, while also stating that the experience will blend aspects of games and movies in more than one way, something he has previously promised for the aforementioned OD as well.

“I can’t tell you more for now, but we plan to bring together cutting-edge technology and talent from around the world to develop Physint,” Kojima explained yesterday. “Of course, it’s an interactive game, but it’s also a movie at the same time, in terms of appearance, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, and sound. With this title, we hope to transcend the barriers between movies and video games.”
