Kratos has become soft, says the creator of ‘God of War’
Neither Ragnarok, nor Ragnarak.

Let’s be honest: the first three games of the ‘God of War’ saga were a hack and slash with not much else to tell. Kratos was a tormented character who, for one reason or another, had to kill every monster or god he encountered. It was fun, didn’t require much thought, and managed to create an imposing figure who was, in essence, a killing machine. But in the reboot of the saga, which almost everyone has loved for Kratos’ natural evolution, there is someone who has felt left behind.
Having a bad time
It is none other than David Jaffe, the creator of the original trilogy, who has stated in a YouTube video that he cannot stand the two new games in the franchise. “I don’t want to see these characters growing up. I don’t like at all the direction that ‘God of War’ is going.” At least he says he liked the first one, but it is ‘Ragnarok’ that has caused him absolute rejection, not because of the gameplay, but because of what it tells.
“Someone should tell these people not to do it from time to time. And tell them ‘We love that you are artistic, we love that you are taking things from your personal life…’ but someone needs to stand up and say, ‘You need to do all that within the fence we have built and if you walk outside of it, the electric collar will hurt you’. Or in other words: like until now, but resembling their ‘God of War’.
Jaffe has not directed a game in the franchise since 2007, but that hasn’t stopped him from giving his opinion on it even though he couldn’t give advice on these new titles because he was immersed, at the time, in the development of ‘Drawn to death’, for PS4, which never quite worked out (and you may have never heard of it).
Will we see a tougher and less sentimental Kratos in the future? Will we return to the Aegean landscapes to take down the gods whenever it may be? For now, it seems that Sony is strongly betting on the Ghost of Sparta, so it wouldn’t be surprising if we soon learn more about the sixth game in the main saga. Until then, we will have to settle for its free DLC. And no sentimentality.
