Don’t Nod Entertainment has made the bold decision to split its new title, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, into two parts. This release strategy is inspired by the success of its acclaimed series Life is Strange and aims to replicate the episodic model that has shown a strong emotional connection with players, who eagerly await each of the episodes. The game’s director, Michel Koch, has expressed that this approach allows players to engage more deeply with the narrative over time, unlike series that are consumed all at once, like many titles on Netflix.
Will it make us cry as much as Life is Strange?
Lost Records follows the lives of four friends, exploring their teenage years in the summer of 1995 and contrasting with their adult lives 27 years later. Koch has detailed that part 1 is titled Bloom and part 2 Rage, reflecting different phases in the evolution of the story. The division into chapters not only responds to a narrative need but also allows players to reflect on the events between each release, fostering a type of connection that is difficult to achieve in full releases.
According to the review from GamesRadar+, which applauds this decision, Lost Records offers a genuine portrayal of female adolescence, further reinforcing the idea that episodic game division can provide a richer and more contemplative experience for players. As the video game industry evolves, this trend towards diversified release formats suggests that Don’t Nod is at the forefront, reflecting on player engagement and interactive narratives.
Part 1 is already available, while Part 2 is expected to arrive in April, marking a new chapter in the history of storytelling in video games.
