Max has just released the latest M. Night Shyamalan movie on its streaming platform, Trap (The Trap), one of the most controversial and ambitious proposals of the year. With Shyamalan’s unmistakable touch, this dark and surprising thriller mixes black humor, tension, and unexpected twists in a story that captivated the general public, grossing 82 million from a base of 30.

Trap follows Cooper Abbott (Josh Hartnett), a devoted family man and firefighter from Philadelphia who takes his teenage daughter to the concert of Lady Raven, her favorite artist. But this event quickly turns into a nightmare: the venue is surrounded by an impressive security detail led by the FBI, in search of a serial killer known as “The Butcher”… who turns out to be Cooper himself.

Shyamalan in his element

In Trap, Shyamalan unfolds one of his high-tension plots where the protagonist must navigate between maintaining the facade of an exemplary father and his identity as a lethal assassin, while his daughter enjoys the show without suspecting anything. Despite having only a 50% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it is a very unusual proposal in cinema that is worth watching.
