From the deepest pain in my heart, the other day I made it quite clear that Megalopolis had been one of the worst experiences I had in theaters, and as time goes by, that only becomes more evident. It was really an open secret, as everything that was leaking about the movie was worse than the previous. But Francis Ford Coppola is who he is, and perhaps I still hoped he could surprise us with its theatrical release.

However, it has not been like that at all. Megalopolis premiered with a box office of 4 million dollars, one of the worst opening weekends for a big-budget movie in history. Interestingly, it is not the worst of the year, as that spot is reserved for Borderlands, but the blow hurts just the same.

A Disaster Foretold

The film starring Adam Driver has not even come close to the $120 million investment that came from the director himself. Thus, it is clear that Megalopolis is confirmed as the failure that had been anticipated for months. Its only hope now is to achieve better numbers in streaming… when it arrives.
