TFT is Riot’s biggest success only after League of Legends. The success of this auto-battler was such that, although it did not create the genre, it managed to popularize it in a way that seemed impossible until then. And it makes sense. It is appealing, has a great license behind it, and is relatively easy to understand and relatively deep. But it also has something undeniable. It is not very well adapted for mobile devices. And Riot knows that.
As you know, at Riot Games they have announced the release of Golden Spatula, a new auto-battler based on League of Legends. In fact, if you know TFT, this game is not something you are unfamiliar with. The heroes are the same, the dynamics as well, and although there are small changes here and there, it remains TFT.
What is the change that warrants a name change? Golden Spatula is an experience entirely designed for mobile devices. This is evident in both the UI, which is much more readable and usable on small screens, and in the gaming experience itself, with mechanics changed or slightly different compared to its PC version. This makes it a game that appears similar to TFT, but when played, feels like a somewhat different game.
Golden Spatula has already opened its registration, but only in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. The rest of the world will still have to wait a little longer, but being Riot Games, it’s doubtful that they will make us wait too long before we can sink our teeth into this little golden gem.
