Group Program Manager for Microsoft’s Cortana, Marcus Ash, confirmed the voice assistant’s arrival on Windows in a set of tweets over the weekend. Microsoft’s voice assistant and answer to Siri is already set for Windows Phone 8.1, but tweets made by Ash confirm that its expected to make its way onto desktop at some point in the future.
On the heels of comments Ash made last week at the SMX Advanced Conference regarding Cortana’s future on iOS and Android, it looks like the voice assistant won’t stop at mobile.
4. After we execute on #1 – #3, we have started to THINK about #Cortana on #Windows so more #Microsoft customers experience her.

5. In a future state, the best experience will still be for #Microsoft customers that own all #Windows devices. Best work is on our devices. — Marcus Ash (@marcusash) June 14, 2014
While the priority is to optimize Cortana for Windows Phone, its expansion to desktop aligns with Microsoft’s desire to push Cortana globally, not only limiting her to the mobile but capturing a much broader audience via desktop.
While any expected arrival date of Cortana for desktop is limited to ‘a future state’, the Windows Phone 8.1 update will give users a taste of Cortana when it’s released next week.
