Microsoft has presented an interactive demo inspired by Quake II, which uses a generative artificial intelligence model to create visuals and actions in real time. Under the name of Copilot Gaming Experience, the demonstration aims to offer a new way to interact with video games. However, the reality of the execution leaves much to be desired. Despite the billions of dollars invested in its research and development, the visual quality is low and presents performance issues, raising doubts about its viability.
A useless technology
The technology, known as the World and Human Action Model, aims to simulate player behaviors and create dynamic environments. Without defined levels or goals, the game environment results in constant change that can disorient players. Several users have experienced physical discomfort, such as dizziness, in this demo, raising concerns about player well-being when using this type of technology.
The analyst also points out that the exorbitant spending on the development of these types of projects raises ethical questions about the direction the video game industry is taking. Despite the boldness involved in integrating artificial intelligence into video games, it does not seem to have met the quality expectations that modern players demand.
Comparing the current situation with Google’s failed streaming platform, Stadia, the question arises whether technological demonstrations, no matter how impressive, really provide anything to the consumer. With the current wave of AI, some are questioning whether the industry is rushing to adopt technologies that are not yet up to the promises made, leaving players dissatisfied in the processes. Undoubtedly, the Copilot Gaming Experience has left a bitter taste, prompting reflection on the future of video games and the role of technology in their evolution.
