There has been much talk in recent months about Microsoft’s intentions with Windows 11, making a radical change in it to not only improve the quality of service, but also attract a larger audience. For that reason, it was expected that this big change would be Windows 12, but the latest leaks indicate the possibility that, finally, the same numbering will be maintained.

This would imply that, despite the major changes that are proposed to be carried out in terms of new features, and making the system much more adapted to the possibilities offered by Artificial Intelligence, Microsoft could choose to keep the branding of its operating system as Windows 11, leaving the change to Windows 12 for 2025.

The main premise behind the switch to Windows 12 is that, conceptually, many changes were going to be made to the operating system to adapt it to the multiple Artificial Intelligence-based functions, thus offering a series of improvements that align with the current trend in the technology sector. However, it seems that, although the changes do occur, the name change does not.

According to WindowsCentral, it is possible that Windows 11 will remain as the operating system, despite its major update, the 24H2, which is expected to arrive around September, leaving aside the official change to Windows 12, which would be postponed to 2025, thus keeping Windows 11 as the main operating system from Microsoft for a longer period of time.

Copilot, the axis of change

It is evident that everything that Microsoft is doing is done with Copilot in mind. This generative AI is the main reason why they would have considered accelerating the arrival of Windows 12 to this year, whether with a number jump or not. And it is that, in addition to the fact that the entire sector is currently developing with AI in mind, Microsoft Copilot is already currently being integrated into numerous brand services.

In fact, the arrival of Copilot to applications like Microsoft Teams, where it will apply functions like smart summary and assistance to conferences and meetings, or to Outlook to offer support in writing and organizing content, as well as prioritizing key content in longer messages.
