PBS has released the first trailer for its new series Miss Austen, an adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Gill Hornby, which will premiere on March 6 on Movistar Plus. The series is set in the year 1830 and delves into an intriguing literary mystery centered around the figure of Cassandra Austen, sister of the famous novelist Jane Austen.
The figure of Jane Austen in fiction
The story promises to explore the life and relationships of Cassandra, played by actress Rose Leslie, who is known for her role in Game of Thrones. Alongside her, Keeley Hawes takes on the role of Jane Austen herself, offering a new perspective on the life of one of the most beloved authors in English literature. Now it’s her turn; after giving us so many characters, now she is one. The trailer begins with a poignant statement from Cassandra: I am not ready to let go of my beloved sister, Cassie, suggesting an emotional and personal approach to the narrative.
Miss Austen seeks not only to capture the essence of Austen’s work but also to delve into the relationship between the sisters and the challenges they faced in a male-dominated society. The series will be a combination of historical drama and mystery, which could attract both fans of Austen’s work and new audiences interested in period storytelling.
The anticipation for the series is growing, especially after the reveal of its trailer, and fans of the novel, some romantics, are eagerly awaiting its arrival on Movistar Plus.
